Two hours as the senior designer on a client's app launch, in your own tools: find the rules the brief breaks from the people who know, have an idea that works in the first second with the sound off, design the frames, animate the hook, turn it into every format and the in-app animation, set up an AI-assisted production flow that makes and checks the variants, crit a junior's work, and handle live ads that suddenly show the wrong number. AI tools welcome; we score your choices, then your craft.
The client's brief asks for things that would break the brand, the law and the app. Find out from the people who know, and say no kindly.
Three ideas, one picked with evidence, a storyboard, and three style frames that look like the brand and nobody else.
Animate the hook and into the key moment in your own tools. Rough is fine; timing and easing are what we look at.
Every format rethought, not resized, and an in-app animation spec an engineer can build from. Then crit a junior designer's board.
Set up the AI-assisted flow you would use to turn out every version of the campaign (any tools: AI design and video tools, asset libraries, assistants connected to your apps, scripts), run it, show it running, and show how you check what it makes.
Something will go wrong with the client's live ads while you work. Handle it as you would on the job.
Walk us through a piece of your own work, and back it with the files behind it.
Everyone applying for this role is scored against these same criteria. Where possible, automated checks test whether your work really holds up; people review your reasoning.
You find the rules that matter (brand, claims, platforms, the app) from the people who know, before you design.
Something worth stopping for, that works with the sound off and drives the action the client needs.
Type, colour, layout and motion that look like the brand and nobody else, readable on a phone.
Every format rethought, safe zones respected, and an in-app animation an engineer can actually build.
Claims, accessibility and brand rules handled without making the work dull; you stop harm before polishing.
The files behind your work count more than finished pieces. "Not yet" is a fine, honest answer.
You make AI turn out a solid, verified baseline (variants, versions, formats) that you then finish by hand, and you can show the flow working, not just name the tools.

Add your own accounts, accounts you've worked on and your portfolio, with a screenshot of each. Not timed.
120 minutes in your browser, in one sitting. Everything saves as you type.
Or let the clock run out. We review what you saved.
Yes. The Lab runs in your browser, and you make the work in your own tools, then upload images or a PDF, or paste a link to video. Have a way to share a video link ready (Google Drive, Frame.io, unlisted YouTube or Vimeo).
Not a polished one, and we don't expect it. We ask for the first five seconds or more, rough. Deliberate timing and easing matter more than finish.
No. Like real work, some rules live with people and in documents. You can question the client, our Creative Director, the client's engineer and their compliance officer with a small budget of questions, and open a limited number of views in a data room. We read every question and see every step.
Yes, and we expect you to. One station asks you to set up and run the AI-assisted production flow you would use for the campaign's variants, and to show it working (a screen recording or screenshots) and how you check its output. Generic AI imagery that could be any brand still scores low.
The files behind your work: an After Effects or Figma screenshot, a timeline, sketches or style frames, a Lottie you shipped. Blur anything confidential. A finished piece shows the result; the file shows you made it.
Yes. Labs runs on automaark.com, our own domain, and invitations come from careers@automaark.com. We will never ask for a password, payment or ID documents. If in doubt, email careers@automaark.com.
Yes, and we expect you to. You own everything you submit, so check what AI gives you, and tell us where it helped and where it was wrong. No help from another person. The full rules are on our AI-use page (labs.automaark.com/ai-use).
Only when you press Start. The deadline in your email is the last moment you can start. Pick any time before then that suits you; once you start, you finish in one sitting.
If our platform fails during your attempt, it's on us. Reply to your invite email and we'll give you a fresh attempt.
Your work is scored against the same written criteria as everyone else applying for that role. Shortlisted candidates are invited to a 30-minute call about what they did.
We store your name, email, the links and screenshots you give us and your assessment work, only for this hiring process. Your work stays private, is never published, and is deleted within 12 months.
